“Art Of Creation” Street Festival April 6, 2018
From the foundation of the world, life and all its creation - the animals, the four elements and humans - lived naturally. There was no plastic in our bodies, food and oceans until the industrialism of the 1800s. As our world began to experience the backlash of plastics, poison and pollutants of industrialism, we strayed away from our natural creation. As we approach Earth Day, Oakland First Fridays celebrates the "Art Of Creation” on April 6th, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at West Grand and Telegraph Avenue. At this celebration the organization is recognizing Oakland First Fridays participants who sell and make art of AND inspired by the foundation of creation: all-natural products, organic food, recycled goods and more.
Support eco-friendly businesses like Easy Growin’ Designs. The owner, Kristen Naab, forages for materials, such as driftwood, dried flowers, seeds and cones. She also uses recycled materials, like baskets, jars, and bowls to pot the plants. Check out the sustainable and effective food system brought to you by Imperfect Produce. Xingones will be serving up Mexican food made in a sustainable work environment. They buy free range chicken, butcher in-house, use compostable packaging, as well as practice other eco-friendly processes.
Attractions and performances include artist Robert Vargas, who will be painting live, creating his #PortraitsOfTheBay series in the interactive area near 23rd Street. At the 24th Street Stage see Tone Oliver, an L.A.-born, Oakland-based MC with roots in poetic lyricism. In his early high school days, he teamed up with the Fly Guys & Issa Rae to create the popular award-winning YouTube series "Fly Guys Presents The F Word.” His newest project, PLUTO, is set to release April 1st exclusively on www.toneoliver.com. Also at the 24th Street stage is the band Robot Nature , an eclectic synthesis of modern electronic, noir pop and infectious synth-rock elements blend pulsing violins and haunting melodies, fused with electronic EDM. Our full vendor listing and stage locations can be viewed on the map here. Entertainment Lineup is available here.
Oakland First Fridays is happy to participate in Visit Oakland’s Art Month in May! If you’re an artist who is interested in being featured in the Art Month street festival, "Art Is Women," on May 4th, then please reach out to us at event@OaklandFirstFridays.org.
