Oakland First Fridays Celebrates Black History Month With The
“Black Arts” Street Festival


Oakland, CA - Oakland First Fridays celebrates Black History Month on February 2, 2018 with the street festival, Black Arts, taking place on West Grand and Telegraph Avenue from 5 to 9 p.m. At this event, the Black and African-American community is being recognized for the contributions its members have made to the Oakland arts through their business and vision. When you come to First Fridays this month you’ll get to experience the work of Black and African-American food makers, performers, and sellers of arts and crafts.

About Oakland First Fridays: The Oakland First Fridays street festival is a monthly community event program taking place in the KONO district from West Grand Avenue to 27th Street on Telegraph Avenue. The event attracts between 30,000 and 50,000 people monthly who come together for the good of Oakland’s art, music and creative community.

Event Highlights: 1) Performances by Black artists: Drow Flow: a multidisciplinary artist, whose primary medium is DJing will be performing at the 25th Street Stage and spoken word artist, Porsche Kelly a.k.a. The Poet Activist, can be seen at the 24th Street stage. 2) Eat from Black-owned culinary artisans: Xavier’s Place, a food artisan business who fuses soul food and California cuisine will be present, alongside Cee’s Fried Chicken, Charlie Franks and Gorgeous Gorilla. 3) Support Black-owned and -inspired works from Sankofa African Arts, which sells hand-crafted clothing and jewelry from materials made in Ghana, Africa. Other sellers include Curlee, Eccentric Vibes, Feminine Funk, Icebox Magnets, Le Maison Africaine,  Oakland’s Own and more. 4) At the 24th Street Stage see Robot Nature , an eclectic synthesis of modern electronic, noir pop and infectious synth-rock elements blend pulsing violins and haunting melodies, fused with electronic EDM.
