Oakland First Fridays is back January 4

(for immediate release)

Oakland First Fridays returns to Telegraph Avenue on January 4 to kick off 2019 with a wide array of artists, vendors, food and music for the whole community to enjoy.

What began as a spontaneous street festival in 2005 has since become a crown jewel in Oakland's arts and culture scene. It's been an incubator for artists and small businesses, a driver of downtown's resurgence as an entertainment district, and most of all a celebration of all the things that make Oakland great. Produced by the nonprofit KONO Business Improvement District, it draws up to 50,000 people downtown for a family-friendly, only-in-Oakland experience.

The theme for January is COMMUNITY, in recognition of all the people who make this event what it is. Admission is free (though donations are always appreciated), and designed to be fun for the whole family.  Our entertainment lineup is here, and you can visit oaklandfirstfridays.org for more information.

Oakland First Fridays takes place from 5:00-9:00pm on Telegraph Avenue, from West Grand Avenue to 27th Street.  It’s one of many things going on downtown on a First Friday evening, along with the Art Murmur open studio event and more. Visit oaklandfirstfridays.org/afterwards for information on post-festival activities around town.
